A group of people sit in a conference-style workshop in a bright meeting room, many working on laptops while facing a presentation screen at the front. Several attendees wear black shirts with “Tour Accessibility” branding on the back. Large text overlaid on the image reads, “Thank you, Karratha!” in black and purple lettering.

On the 14th of May, Centre for Accessibility Australia (CFA Australia) delivered a successful workshop in Karratha focusing on plain language and accessible social media.

Laetitia Thompson, Digital Content Training Officer at CFA Australia, led the session, sharing practical insights into creating clear, inclusive, and accessible digital communications. Drawing on her experience, she highlighted the importance of using plain language to ensure content is easy to understand for diverse audiences, including people with disability. The workshop also explored strategies for making social media more accessible, including the use of alt text, captioning and colour contrast.

Held at the Karratha International Hotel in the Gecko’s Meeting Room, the workshop brought together participants from a range of sectors across the region. Attendees took part in discussions and practical activities, gaining valuable tools and techniques to improve the accessibility of their digital content and social media platforms.

CFA Australia extends its sincere thanks to the Department of Communities WA for supporting the workshop.

Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to a successful morning of learning and collaboration.
