With the help of alternative text descriptions, Giphy has teamed up with Scribely – a content accessibility solutions provider, to make the platform more accessible for screen reader users.
Scribely will add descriptive text which will then allow screen readers to read the alt text aloud, enabling the users to be able to understand what is happening in a Gif. Giphy’s most popular content now includes alt text and Giphy are planning to add more to Gifs.
Gifs are very short videos on loop, and often evoke emotion and humour in a way that static pictures cannot.
