The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) has released its Accessibility Action Plan 2026–2029, with digital accessibility included as one of its five key areas.
The plan includes a focus on making sure people with disability can access digital information and tools, both within the RBA and through its public-facing services.
One of the more specific commitments is to make graphs on the RBA website compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 during the 2026–27 financial year.
The RBA will also develop a digital accessibility protocol and increase accessibility monitoring across its systems. Accessibility will be included in software development and project management processes, as well as procurement and contracts.
The plan also looks at how the RBA will measure digital accessibility and consider accessibility as the use of artificial intelligence develops.
Some accessibility work is already in place. The RBA has used descriptive alternative text for graphs and images in its publications since 2022, provides transcripts for audio content and captions its media conferences. It has also developed accessibility guidance for social media.
The new plan sets out how the RBA intends to continue this work over the next three years, with digital accessibility becoming a more consistent part of how its information, systems and services are developed.
