AusAlert has released a suite of accessible emergency preparedness resources to help more Australians plan ahead and stay informed during emergencies.
The new AusAlert kits have been developed with accessibility in mind and provide practical information for people with disability, carers, support workers, community organisations and anyone who may require information in alternative formats.
Resources are available in a range of accessible formats, including Auslan, Easy Read and closed captions. The AusAlert website is also available in 19 languages, helping to make emergency information more accessible for culturally and linguistically diverse communities.
Each kit includes:
- A booklet with emergency preparedness advice and links to support services.
- An explainer video with closed captions.
- Posters and factsheets.
- Social media tiles with suggested wording that organisations can use to share important information with their communities.
Having accessible emergency information available before an emergency occurs can help people understand their options, make informed decisions and prepare for situations such as bushfires, floods, storms and other natural disasters.
The resources are free to download and can be shared by disability organisations, community groups and service providers to help ensure emergency preparedness information reaches as many people as possible.
