HapWare’s ALEYE is a wearable assistive system that helps individuals who are blind, have low vision, are deaf-blind, or are neurodiverse interpret non-verbal social signals through touch. The system consists of a wristband that receives data from camera-equipped smart glasses, using proprietary algorithms to detect facial expressions and gestures and translate them into unique vibrational patterns felt on the user’s wrist in near real-time.
The accompanying mobile app allows users to personalise their experience, selecting which cues to receive and utilising pre-set configurations for different social environments. This new technology offers a novel sensory channel for individuals to perceive social cues like smiles, frowns, nods, or handshakes, critical for understanding conversational tone and intent.
Currently, ALEYE is available for pre-order, with estimated shipping beginning in late 2026.
