Microsoft has announced new enhancements to its Narrator screen reader and Microsoft 365 apps, marking the recent International Day of People with Disability. The updates aim to improve the experience for blind and low-vision users, empowering them to achieve more with AI-powered tools.

Key features include:

Performance improvements and new scan mode shortcuts for easier content navigation

AI-powered image descriptions and speech recap for enhanced productivity

Screen Curtain for private reading and Braille viewer for training and development

Natural reading experiences and efficient comment navigation in Microsoft Word

Microsoft’s Inclusive Product Accelerator program, which prioritises accessibility, drove these innovations. The company continues to seek feedback to further improve its products. Upcoming initiatives include expanding Narrator capabilities to more Microsoft 365 apps and enhancing Braille support.
