The United Arab Emirates has won the Secretariat General of the Gulf Cooperation Council Patent Office Award and a silver medal at the 16th International Invention Fair in the Middle East, held in Kuwait, for a new assistive device for people who are blind or with low vision.

The innovation, developed by Emirati inventor Aisha Al Zarooni and presented through the Emirates Inventors Association, is called the Electronic Text Reading Device by Touch. The smart glove uses a Braille cell to convert digital text into tactile signals, allowing users to read content discreetly without relying on audio output. A companion mobile app translates written text into Braille patterns transmitted directly to the glove.

Officials from the Ministry of Economy and Tourism praised national innovation programs for enabling Emirati inventors to showcase their work internationally. This year’s fair featured 213 inventors and 166 inventions, highlighting the Middle East as a growing hub for technological innovation.
