Croatia has recently approved a new law that requires payment terminals, ATMs, ticket machines, and other services to be made accessible to people with disability.

This development comes on the heels of India’s Supreme Court listing digital access as a human right, marking a positive trend globally towards greater accessibility.

The Croatian law, supported by a majority of MPs, aims to ensure equal access for all individuals, regardless of their disability, and is in line with the EU’s 2019 Directive on accessibility requirements for products and services.

According to Margareta Mađerić, State Secretary at the Ministry of Labour, Pension System, Family and Social Policy, the law will enable greater independence for people with disability and reduced mobility, promoting a more inclusive society.

The law is being fast-tracked to come into effect on June 28, aligning with EU member states’ implementation expectations.

This move towards greater accessibility in Croatia and the recognition of digital access as a human right in India signal a positive shift towards creating more inclusive societies worldwide. For more information, read Sabor’s article on the new digital accessible law from Croatia.
