Bundaberg Tourism is making holidays more accessible with a new variety of tools, including digital guides, audio storytelling, and sensory-friendly experiences.

Supported by the Queensland Government’s Accessible Tourism Elevate Fund, the project was co-designed with people with disability and addresses significant barriers to travel.

Typically, having a disability can complicate travel plans, with accessibility needs related to movement and vision being highly significant factors. Bundaberg’s new offerings include an Accessible Destination Guide showcasing 27 inclusive experiences and immersive audio guides, ranging from accessible accommodation and attractions to cafes, nature walks, and transport, as well as 23 experiences developed in collaboration with Vacayit for travellers who are blind or with low-vision, enhancing their travel experience.

Moreover, Bundaberg also hosted its first sensory-friendly event, inspiring strong regional support for more inclusive tourism, including for those living with a disability, significantly reducing barriers to travel. This initiative has been widely supported by various operators in the region, demonstrating a strong desire to embed accessibility into long-term tourism strategies for businesses, creating a more inclusive travel experience for everyone.
