Alter Boy’s Luke Eastman, aka ‘NRG’, has been nominated for Vocalist of the Year at the West Australian Music Awards for his inclusive Auslan performances. As a Child of Deaf Adults (CODA), Eastman grew up signing to his parents before speaking, and now brings representation to the forefront in the music industry, enabling him to bring a distinct perspective to music, using Auslan to interpret Alter Boy’s indie, electro-pop sound.

Alter Boy’s performances are a hit, with feedback praising the seamless integration of music and sign language. Eastman’s work is proof that accessibility can be woven into the fabric of creative projects.

The band recently performed at the 2025 Australian Access Awards, hosted by Centre for Accessibility Australia, showcasing their unique style. We congratulate Alter Boy on Eastman’s nomination and look forward to their continued success in promoting accessibility through music.

The Awards will be taking place on Wednesday evening. To find out more, please read ABC News’ article on Luke Eastman’s nomination.
