The Australian Football League (AFL) has a suite of digital resources called AllPlay Footy, designed to help kids with disability play football. Developed with Monash University, AllPlay Footy offers over 360 free tools and resources for coaches, families, and players.
The resources include stories for kids, coaching strategies, videos, and practical guides. There’s also a disability inclusion coaching course available on the AFL’s website. These resources aim to make football more accessible and inclusive for kids with disability.
In addition to AllPlay Footy, the AFL has also collaborated with Google to develop the Footy Skills Lab, a free web app that utilises AI-powered technology to provide feedback on football fundamentals. The app includes accessibility features such as:
– Captions: toggle captions on or off
– Video Playback Speed: adjust playback speed to suit individual needs
– AFL Wheelchair Mode: specific features and sessions for wheelchair users
– Visual Cues: strong visual cues to indicate activity completion
– Audio Prompts: audio cues to assist players who are deaf or hard of hearing
AllPlay Footy is part of the AFL’s efforts to promote inclusion and accessibility in football. The initiative has grown from a small pilot program to a comprehensive suite of resources and training. By providing these resources, the AFL hopes to break down barriers and make football a more welcoming sport for everyone.
