A group of student volunteers from Enactus Melbourne, a not-for-profit organisation that builds new social enterprises, is currently seeking survey responses from wheelchair users, support workers and friends and family of wheelchair users to aid the development of their new app.
The goal of the app is to not only locate users to the nearest wheelchair accessible restaurant, but to offer reliable information on the accessibility of the restaurant. This includes information on parking, accessible toilets and photos of the entrance.
The idea was raised by one of the volunteers who is also a disability support worker. She suggested that a few of her biggest takeaways from working in disability support were how inaccessible services across Victoria are and how the term “accessible” is often misunderstood.
To ensure the app will have everything it needs, Enactus Melbourne is calling for any potential users to fill in the survey and provide all types of feedback. The app will aim to launch by the start of 2022.
The survey is available online at the survey homepage and it closes 30th September.
